Forget that phony country stuff. You know what we mean. The spiky hair, True Religion jeans and untucked shirts with crosees and tattoo like graphics. And forget the electric guitars, the screeching lyrics and country-meets-rocker beats.

George Strait does it right.

His latest album, Twang, is as back to the basics, roots-driven as it gets. It’s country like it’s supposed to be. Nothing flashy, nothing contrived. Just smooth melodies, nice instrumentals and of course that timeless voice.

Check out tracks like El Rey (with Strait singing unbelievably well as a Spanish mariachi), Living For the Night and Beautiful Day For Goodbye–aww heck, just buy the whole album. It doesn’t get much cooler that this.
