I’m a glutton for gadgets. Seriously. I have too many. But…I…just….can’t….stop.

The latest must-have is the Kodak Zi8. Now, I haven’t used it, but nary is there a day that I leave the house without my Kodak Zi6–an awesome pocket-sized HD camera. Now, I know the Zi6 hasn’t haad the “We be cool kinda like Apple is cool” cult following, but I’m hear to say it’s a pretty phenomenal camera. In the tests I’ve seen the video quality is a little better than the Flip HD, but aside from that, I chose it because I actually preferred having a removable SDHC card, as well as the fact that it runs on AA batteries. Yeah, call me old school, but when you’re on the road and in a bind and your camera battery goes dead, it’s a lot easier to pop in a new set of AA’s than it is to find a plug and sit there and wait while it charges.

That said, the upgrades in the Zi8 include 1080p video, and HDM outlet and even better stabilization. Oh yeah, and an internal battery. Boo. But, at least it’s removable, meaning you can always buy an extra. (Yes, I’m a nerd about always having an extra battery. You should be too.) Look for an actual review of the side-by-side tests as soon as I get one!
