Review: Nike LunarGlide

Here at the Ryno Report, we like to think we know a thing or two about Nike shoes. Specifically, Nike running shoes.

Why you ask? Cuz, we’ve been somewhat indoctrinated to believe they are the greatest running shoes on the planet, thanks mainly to the subversive, subliminal propaganda some of us had to endure while undergrads at the University of Oregon. Which, in case you didn’t know already, was where Nike first started, and the company continues to be a humongous donor and supporter of Oregon athletics.

But, we know better. Not all Nike running shoes have been that great. If anything, we’ve shunned many a’pair of Nike’s  for being too small to size, not very durable and in some cases, just plain ugly. Even with our indoctrinated “Nike is King” college education, as well as knowing the history of the waffle sole and so forth better than most, we know a good shoe when we see one and Nike just hasn’t had one in a while.

Until now, that is.

Arguably our favorite Nike shoe, if not ever, is the new LunarGlide+ (+ as in you can insert that iPod doohickey if you want to sync up your runs to your beats.) The LunarGlide eschews AIR-based technology for what Nike called LunarLite and Flywire Tech–the first being an advanced layering of foam that’s both supportive and cushy–an innocuous feat at first glance, but a ton of R&D went into finding the perfect blend of support and cushion. The Flywire support works to reinforce the laces via small wires for added support around the midfoot areas.

But will it blend?

Just kidding. In actuality, the LunarGlide is a crazy comfortable, lightweight shoe that’s incredible supportive for running on flat or steady terrain. If there are negatives, it’s not the best shoe for cross training or sporting activities where there is a lot of twisting, sliding and lateral motion since the shoe is too soft to support that kind of motion. But if running is your modus operendi and you want cushioning and support with every step, the LunarGlide is an awesome choice.

Or, if you’re lazy like us and you want an uber-comfortable shoe for walking from the couch to the fridge, these do the trick. And, the’re under $100 bucks. Multiple colors are avilable. nike-lunar-glide-plus-1nike-lunar-glide-plus-2
